A Beautiful Smile! That’s our goal. When you laugh people see your teeth – front and back. The “Dark Ages” of black fillings is over. Today, back fillings are white like your natural teeth. Why settle for anything less?
What are White Fillings?
White fillings, also called composite fillings or composites, are made from durable, tooth colored composite plastics. Composites blend with natural tooth color. Other people may think you have perfect, virgin teeth.
What makes them better?
The great thing about composites is that they actually chemically bond to the existing tooth … they seal and protect the tooth.
Bonding to the tooth also makes the remaining tooth stronger and more resistant to stress and less likely to fracture or break.… and they are mercury free. In our office we eliminated mercury in 1988.
We feel strongly that mercury fillings are a relic of history and have no place in modern dentistry.
How long will they last?
We do know that many of our fillings from the early 1990s are still functioning and look great. Some have chipped or appear worn. It all depends on the forces you put on those fillings. Your composite fillings will certainly function at a high level much longer than mercury amalgam fillings.
What else can composites do?
If you have spaces between your front teeth, we can bond composites to the teeth and close those spaces – with reason of course.
Composites, because they chemically bond to the tooth, can repair chipped teeth, broken teeth, or worn teeth.
Are composites harder to place?
You bet! In our Tewksbury office we use a rubber dam to isolate the teeth so that the operating field is clean and moisture free. If you are in the greater Boston communities of Andover, Billerica, Chelmsford, Lowell and Wilmington call to schedule your appointment today!
